You are a massive black hole residing within the void.

Rogue outbursts of bright energy threaten the vast nothingness.

Move fast. Destroy Energy. Restore The Void.

Restoring the Void is a single player collaborative art game developed by Owen Lowery (me). The game produces player specific abstract imagery via gameplay.  These images are collected with the intention of presenting them as an alternative collaborative project through exhibition alongside a highly immerse live projected version of the game. Imagery created  is considered co-owned by player and game developer.

"The game came out of grappling with issues of creative collaboration and what I see as discouraging competitive attitudes between peers working alongside or directly with each other. (I'm as guilty of it as anyone). So the goal was to develop a simple game that metaphorically addresses those struggles while simultaneously creating a semi-collaborative artistic byproduct (the gameplay imagery) that saves what I see as representations of lost potential when a collaborative project goes bad. Currently, through play-testing, I'm trying to see if people move past playing the game to win and begin experimenting with how they might affect the imagery produced within the limitations of the game mechanics. I'm curious if players will feel a sense of agency or ownership over the imagery they create through play.  Already I've been getting back imagery that pushes way beyond what I expected or would had even thought possible. There are some super interesting people out there."
